Grindhouse Releasing Blu-ray News!

We hope all our fans around the world are staying safe during the pandemic. Wash your hands, stay inside, and practice social distancing with our Blu-ray releases of such antisocial films as I DRINK YOUR BLOODCORRUPTION, and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST!

While quarantined in our underground bunker, the Grindhouse Releasing team is busy working on several new Blu-ray releases.

HOLLYWOOD 90028

Christina Hornisher’s HOLLYWOOD 90028 (a.k.a. TWISTED THROATS and THE HOLLYWOOD HILLSIDE STRANGLER) was transferred in 4K from the original camera negative salvaged from a Hollywood dumpster!

The HOLLYWOOD 90028 Blu-ray will include an interview with The Strangler himself, Christopher Augustine of Every Mother’s Son and Elephant, esteemed editor Leon Ortiz-Gil (THE NIGHT GALLERYBATTLESTAR GALACTICA24), plus more surprise bonus features! Check out these articles about the movie from Temple of Schlock (link) and the estimable Marc Edward Heuck (The Projector Has Been Drinking, (link), New Beverly Cinema (link).

DEATH GAME

Director Peter S. Traynor with Seymour Cassel and Sondra Locke on the set of DEATH GAME

Produced with the full cooperation of director Peter S. Traynor and director of photography David Worth, our gorgeous restoration of DEATH GAME presents the movie for the first time in its full Panavision glory. The 4K scan was made from the original camera negative. While our planned theatrical premiere is on hold, we’re now assembling the extra features including Traynor’s final career interview, filmed just weeks before his passing with director Eli Roth, as well as new interviews with star Colleen Camp and producer Larry Spiegel.

SCUM OF THE EARTH

The deluxe Blu-ray edition of S.F. Brownrigg’s SCUM OF THE EARTH  (a.k.a. POOR WHITE TRASH PART II) contains exclusive interviews with the entire cast – Norma Moore, Gene Ross, Ann Stafford, Camilla Carr, Charlie Dell, Joel Colodner, and Hugh Feagin – plus cameraman and film editor Brian H. Hooper, script supervisor Jackie Barnes, production manager Jake Jacobie, and others. A documentary about S.F. Brownrigg produced by David Szulkin and Bob Murawski is now in post with editor Paul Hart. This limited edition 2-disc release with companion book will be available only from the Grindhouse Releasing web store!

And, in yet another sign of the impending Apocalypse, we have completed the stunning 4K transfer of Palmer Rockey’s long-unseen magnum opus LOVE IS DEEP INSIDE!

EVIL DEAD News!

GRINDHOUSE RELEASING BRINGS “EVIL DEAD” TO THEATERS IN 4K WITH EXCLUSIVE NEW 5.1 SURROUND SOUNDTRACK

Original Composer Joe LoDuca Revisits Sam Raimi’s Horror Classic

For Immediate Release

Grindhouse Releasing is bringing Sam Raimi’s EVIL DEAD to theaters for the first time in 4K with a terrifying new soundtrack!

This special edition of EVIL DEAD presents the horror classic for the first time with a reimagined score by original composer Joseph LoDuca and a thrilling new 5.1 surround mix created by Marti Humphrey and Jussi Tegelman, the award-winning sound crew behind DRAG ME TO HELL and ASH VS. EVIL DEAD.

Star BRUCE CAMPBELL explains, “Mixing the sound for EVIL DEAD in the early 80’s, we were forced to shove everything into one monaural box. As a result, Joe LoDuca’s great score had to compete unfairly with Kandarian Demons, gore sound effects and lots of screaming. With this new release, Joe can finally have his dynamic composition mixed, balanced and featured properly – for perhaps the first time ever!”

Grindhouse Releasing owner Bob Murawski worked with Raimi to restore EVIL DEAD from the original 16mm camera negatives, and brought the stunning 4K transfer together with LoDuca’s new soundtrack. Murawski is an Oscar-winning film editor whose work with Sam Raimi includes DARKMAN, ARMY OF DARKNESS, THE GIFT, SPIDER MAN 1, 2, & 3, DRAG ME TO HELL, and ASH VS. EVIL DEAD.

“With this fantastic new score, Joe LoDuca proves that he’s the Bartok of blood, the Shostakovich of shock, the Mahler of the macabre.” Murawski said. ”The new music, new sound mix and new 4K restoration have elevated EVIL DEAD from the scary to the sublime.”

FROM THE COMPOSER

EVIL DEAD was my first film commission. As fate would have it, this is the movie that has the most enduring impact on generations of fans. Every few years I get a request to release the score.

The EVIL DEAD trilogy launched my career composing for films and television. I still get asked to write for horror/thrillers. I love doing it, because the genre has no rules when it comes to music, save the objective of building tension and sustaining dread. Today’s audience is more savvy, so I have to constantly re-examine what is scary. Keeps me on my toes.

Producers always want the popcorn to fly, and I am often afforded large orchestras to insure that happens. Yet I never seem to be able to sell the idea that intimacy conjures a bubbling cauldron of fear just as potent. With limited resources, I scored EVIL DEAD for a string quintet augmented by piano, hand percussion, a synthesizer and a bit of guitar–anything I could get my hands on.

So when I was last approached to reissue the score, I asked myself this question: Knowing what I now know, how would I write for that ensemble today?

I am happy that I did.

So sit back in a darkened room and listen to the soundtrack to what Stephen King once called “a black rainbow of horror”.

Welcome to my nightmare: reimagined.

THE TOUGH ONES Hit The Streets Today!

Years in the making, Grindhouse Releasing’s deluxe 3-disc Blu-ray release of Umberto Lenzi’s police-action thriller THE TOUGH ONES is now available from Grindhouse Releasing!

Calum Waddell’s superb Lenzi documnetary, Mike Malloy’s expert commentary, and interviews with the late, great Tomas Milian are just a few of the special features that make THE TOUGH ONES a must-have for genre aficionados. You also get Franco Micalizzi’s score, completely remastered from the original tapes. (And don’t forget that .30-caliber metal BULLET PEN – limited to the first 2,500 copies!

Critics are raving about this jam-packed release!

“FIVE STARS – AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER. I have not seen another release of an Italian genre film that has undergone a complete makeover quite like it — not only is the new 4K restoration very nice, but there are hours and hours of very high-quality supplemental features that could have easily been used for a couple of individual releases. I would have written that it is unmissable even if it had come only with The Rebel Within and The Rebel and the Bourgeois, both of which offer tremendous insight into the life and legacy of Tomas Milian. Needless to say, there is already a guaranteed spot for it on my Top Ten list for 2019. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.”

Blu-ray.com

“THE TOUGH ONES is pure crime movie bliss…the Grindhouse release looks extremely impressive, far surpassing any past release.”

Mondo Digital

“Hard-hitting and angry…Lenzi knows how to stage exciting action sequences. THE TOUGH ONES looks and sounds fantastic, lovingly restored for a 4K presentation….As typical for a title from Grindhouse Releasing, this new edition of THE TOUGH ONES comes absolutely packed to the gills with special content, not the least of them being a third bonus CD of the film’s soundtrack by Franco Micalizzi.”

Daily Grindhouse

“A MUST! The direction by maestro Umberto Lenzi and cinematography by Federico Zanni are just spectacular and with Grindhouse Releasing’s remastered hi-definition BluRay you can really appreciate the beautiful shots and photography on the screen. The movie takes a little while to get moving but once it kicks into gear it’s a non stop barrage of punch ups, beatdowns, sideswipes, draggings, car chases and shootouts. THE TOUGH ONES really is a cinematic smorgasbord of action delights that will hold you in its grip the entire running time. After seeing a wide variety of polizio films over the years, I can honestly say that Roma A Mano Armata aka THE TOUGH ONES ranks up with the best the genre has to offer. A whiz-bang, crackerjack crime film from the days when movies really went for the jugular.”

Grindhouse Database

“A ridiculously satisfying ninety-three-minutes of high octane, politically incorrect, bad guy smashing insanity from Lenzi and an insanely entertaining time at the movies. Grindhouse Releasing has done a beautiful job bringing this to Blu-ray. The transfer is gorgeous, the audio rock solid and the extras cover more ground than anyone could have ever hoped for. All in all, a fantastic package that comes highly recommended!”

Rock! Shock! Pop!

“HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION – THE TOUGH ONES isn’t simply an extraordinary release of a poliziottesco, cult cinema in general, or, hell, Blu-ray as a format. Maybe you’ll roll your eyes at this as hyperbole, but I mean every word of it: what Grindhouse Releasing has delivered with The Tough Ones ranks among the most exceptional editions in the history of home video. DVD Talk Collector Series.”
